The main purpose of this paper is to document six of the Sama mat specimens in the Ethnology Division of the National Museum while providing an insight into the life and culture of the Sama people. The study did not involve fieldwork in the Sulu area so this paper will only be descriptive study and documentation on the mat weaving practices of the Sama. Additional library research was done aside from the laboratory analysis of the mat specimens and the preliminary research materials provided by this paper's adviser, Assistant Director Jesus Peralta. It is hoped that this paper will contribute to the documentation processes of the National Museum particularly its Ethnology Division. Further, it is also hoped that the study could provide basis for future and more in-depth study on the Sama mats through an extensive fieldwork and documentation of the mat weaving industry of the Sama of Sulu. | ||
