<br/><br/> Abstract<br/><br/>A fifth checklist of the native and naturalized vascular plants known from Tennessee is presented, along with brief historical accounts of previous checklists. This checklist revises previous lists (the most recent in 1993) by (1) adding the results of field, herbarium, and laboratory studies, (2) updating recent family realignments, and (3) updating nomenclature and taxonomy. Two components are included that were not found in previous checklists: (1) a watch list of introduced but non-naturalized taxa, and (2) a listing of taxa reported in the literature without stated authentication and that we have not been able to verify. The checklist gives families, genera, species, and infraspecific taxa alphabetically within four groupings, pteridophytes, gymnosperms, angiosperms, monocots, and angiosperms: dicots. Major references are noted. For each of the included 2874 species and infraspecific taxa (2439 native and 435 naturalized), we include the major synonymy, common name, origin if introduced, and listed status where applicable. Numerical summaries are tabulated.
