"This thesis reconstructs the phonology of Proto-Palawan, the common parent of seven languages located in Palawan in the Philippines. A systematic comparison of cognate sets of Batak, Aborlan Tagbanua, Quezon Palawan, Brooke's Point Palawan, Canipaan Palawan, Tau't Batu, and Molbog results in a reconstruction of Proto-Palawan Phonology, a description of the processes involved in the development of the daughter languages, and an hypothesis regarding the subgrouping of the languages based on shared phonological innovations. A list of 165 reconstructed vocabulary items is presented." -- page iv.
