Information technology for archaeological research / Ruben Martinez - October 1996 - iv, 50 pages ; 29 cm.

"This paper deals with one aspect of archaeological research, the data recording as practiced in the Archaeology Division of the National Museum. The singular act which translates observation from the archaeological excavation, experimentation or observations through fieldwork activities into data.

This paper is a study on one aspects of data generation, which is the recording instrument and how the application of information technology affects the said aspect of data generation. However, to understand this specific aspect of archaeology, one has to view the said process within the backdrop of the institution, the theoretical perspectives and objectives of the institution and the scientific environment which interacts with the said institution. This includes the theoretical and methodological development in archaeology and the information sciences which offers innovative technologies which can be useful in the archeological enterprise."-- page 1
